Saadani is the closest mainland national park to Zanzibar and the only place in East Africa where the African bush meets the Indian Ocean.
The park is home to elephants, giraffes, buffalo, lions, several antelope species and rich birdlife. Thanks to its relatively low visitor numbers, Saadani offers a quieter and more intimate safari experience compared to many larger parks.
Spending two nights in the park allows more time to explore different habitats and increases your chances of encountering a wider range of wildlife.
Your safari begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Zanzibar and transfer to the port. From there, you board a fast boat for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to the mainland.
Upon arrival in Saadani, you transfer to Bab’s Camp, where lunch is served in the elevated tower overlooking the surrounding bush.
In the afternoon, you depart for a 4x4 game drive in Saadani National Park. The drive explores areas known for elephants, giraffes, buffalo and other wildlife.
Dinner is served at the camp after sunset.
Later in the evening, you join a night vigil and night safari using thermal scopes. This activity offers the chance to observe nocturnal wildlife rarely seen during the day.
Overnight at Bab’s Camp.
The day begins with an early morning game drive, when wildlife activity in the park is at its peak. As the sun rises over the savannah, you explore different habitats in search of elephants, giraffes, antelopes and predators.
The drive gradually leads toward the Wami River, where the landscape changes and wildlife often gathers along the water.
At the river, you continue the safari by boat. The Wami River is home to large pods of hippos and crocodiles, and its banks attract a wide variety of animals and birdlife. The boat safari offers a unique perspective compared to traditional game drives and is one of the highlights of visiting Saadani.
After the river safari, you return to Bab’s Camp for lunch and some time to relax.
In the afternoon, you depart on another game drive exploring different areas of the park, continuing until late evening when wildlife becomes active again.
Dinner is served back at camp.
During the night, our guides and guards continue monitoring the surrounding wildlife using thermal scopes. If you wish, they can wake you up should particularly interesting wildlife appear near the camp.
Early morning begins with a guided walking safari accompanied by an armed ranger. Walking in the bush allows you to focus on tracks, plants and the smaller details of the ecosystem that are often missed from a vehicle.
After the walk, you return to camp for breakfast.
Late morning transfer to the boat landing and return by fast boat to Zanzibar. Upon arrival, transfer back to your hotel.

When the sun sets, Saadani reveals a completely different side of the wilderness. From the elevated tower and using thermal scopes, our guides monitor the surrounding bush as nocturnal wildlife becomes active.
Predators often start moving after dark, and it is not unusual to see elephants quietly passing near the tower, while buffaloes and giraffes graze in the open areas around the camp. The night offers a rare opportunity to observe these animals behaving naturally in the darkness.
