Snorkeling

Snorkelling in Zanzibar is an experience of a lifetime. The many varieties of coral around the island provide a home to thousands of colourful and exotic creatures, including blue ribbon tail rays, fire fish and clown fish.

Stay Safe

Don’t go snorkelling by yourself. Always let someone know that you’re going snorkelling, and give an estimated time that you’ll be back.

Plan Ahead

Always plan ahead for coming back to shore – remember that you have to swim back the same distance you’ve gone out and you may have to battle against winds and tides

Use sun cream and hydrate yourself before heading out – the sea is warm and you will be sweating without noticing.

Discover Mnemba Island

Take a dhow to Mnemba Island, fishing as we go. Then swim amongst the fish and other sea life (we provide fins and snorkel!) . And finally, head back to the hotel under the power of the dhow sail (winds permitting!). Trip starts around.

Here Is How It Works

There is no charge for snorkeling from The Zanzibari but you will need to bring your own equipment. Talk to one of our managers about the best times and places to see fish and anything else you should be aware of, such as tides, currents and general weather conditions.

Handy Tips And Safety

Ask us for the best times to go snorkelling in the Indian Ocean – depending on your experience level there are a number of different things you can do. Ideally you should wear a rash vest as well if you’re going out for longer than an hour – the water reflects and magnifies the sun so you will be getting twice the dose! Please be aware that all snorkelling is at your own risk.

Scuba Diving

The nearby Mnemba Atoll is one of the best diving spots in Zanzibar and world renowned. With warm waters averaging 27°C (80°F) and good visibility, the waters around the island are awash with colourful marine life.Due to it’s popular location the fish are used to divers, which allows you to get very close and appreciate their beauty. Get On Board
Whether you’re on honeymoon, with your family or by yourself, going on a sunset cruise is the perfect way to wind down the day. You’ll be driven from The Zanzibari to a beach nearby where a traditional Dhow boat will be waiting for you.
Set Sail
We hoist our sails and you will silently carve your way through the calm seas of the Indian ocean. The route will take you round the tip of the island of Zanzibar and along the north coast. You will also be able to snorkel for 15-20 minutes while the sun prepares it masterpiece.

Stone Town Tour

Stone Town is an UNESCO heritage site. During the tour you will witness a wide variety of sights, smells and sounds. The City Tour takes 2 – 3 hrs, and is also a good opportunity to hone your haggling skills when picking out souvenirs from the brightly coloured and adorned shops. Steeped in history, Stone Town in Zanzibar was once the biggest business center of East Africa. In it’s earlier days it was the hub for trading ivory, spices and slaves.

House Of Wonders

The House of Wonders, or Beit-al-Ajaib as it is also called, was once East Africa’s tallest structure and functioned as Sultan Barghash’s ceremonial palace. Presently it is being renovated as a museum that offers a window into the rich history and culture of Zanzibar.

Palace Museum

Once the official residence of the Zanzibar Sultan, this museum showcases artifacts and exhibits that provide an insight into the lifestyles of the island’s past rulers.

Dr. Livingstone´s House
This residence carries historical importance as it is linked to Dr. David Livingstone, a celebrated Scottish missionary and explorer who actively campaigned against the abhorrent practice of the slave trade. It stands as a poignant reminder of the island’s troubled history.
Arab Fort

Constructed by the Omani Arabs during the 17th century, this fortress served as a defensive stronghold against potential invaders. Presently, it functions as a cultural center and provides breathtaking panoramic vistas of Stone Town.

The Old Slave Market

The Old Slave Market is a somber location that once played a pivotal role as a major trading center for enslaved individuals. It stands as a poignant testament to the hardships endured by countless people during this dark chapter in history.

House Of Tippu Tip

This dwelling belonged to Tippu Tip, a notable Arab figure involved in the slave trade. It offers a sobering glimpse into the dark history of Zanzibar’s involvement in the slave trade.

Anglican Church of Christ

The Anglican Church of Christ, constructed by the Universities‘ Mission to Central Africa, serves as a poignant representation of the abolitionist cause and the struggle against slavery.

Carved Doors Of Zanzibar

Rectangular Arab doors feature elaborate carvings of lotus flowers and palm leaves, adorned with prevalent Arabic inscriptions. Similar to doors in the Indian style, these pieces are distinguished by their rounded tops and embedded brass studs. These doors were a strong indication of a household’s wealth and stature.

Zanzibar´s Central Markets

Dive into the lively ambiance of the bustling Central Market, where local vendors offer a diverse array of fresh produce, spices, and handmade crafts. This is a fantastic chance to partake in haggling and acquire some memorable souvenirs.

Spice Farm

Zanzibar is famed for being the spice island due to it’s history of growing and exporting spices to the four corners of the world.
